Unperfect

It is my personal belief and conviction that there was no perfect human to ever walk the face of the Earth except for Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior. Having said that, I will state that this is quite a contrary belief to that of the current world and culture... especially if you are a Mother.

Because of the performance culture we live in, there is so much external pressure placed onto moms to "have it all together". Well honey, I will shout it from the mountaintops... this mamma is far removed from "having it all together". I'm a living, walking, breathing, mess of a human being who is reliant on my Jesus and His word to get me through each and every single HARD, and REAL day of my life.

Motherhood is not a cake walk, and I am not a matchy-matchy, organized, and scheduled mom. Though I do my best to try and have some semblance of a routine, and though I do make an attempt to conquer the laundry monster from time to time (ahem... when everyone is out of clean undies, and my two year old is wearing her big sisters clothes)... I am nowhere near perfect, nor will I ever be.

So "Unperfect" is the term I am beginning to embrace about myself. We were asked as Christians to do everything for the glory of the Lord, and no one else. It is SO freeing to finally understand what that truly means.

I hope you aren't caught up in the whole pretending "perfection" trap, but if you are, there is hope. There was a woman in the Bible who we can learn a great lesson from:

"People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
                                                                              - 1 Samuel 16:7b

So let's STOP! Let's stop pretending, and start being real with each other. How liberating it would be when you have 10 loads of laundry to do, to know that in reality so do the majority of the rest of us. Let's do our best to put first priorities first, and let's refuse to condemn ourselves for the secondary stuff that we can do on an as needed basis. We need to stop obsessing over what everyone else says we should be doing, and go to the real source of true perfection for our duties.

If you feel the same, please leave a comment below with your biggest comparison blunder; by answering the following question:

Where do you feel you fall short as a mom,
 compared to other moms?

My hope is that the majority of comments will be honest, and real struggles. That we can share them together, and know that we are not alone.

Now... stop comparing yourself to other imperfect people, and do your very best to please none other than Him!

  1. I'll go for starters. I feel that I fall short as a mom, compared to other moms, in the arena of cleanliness, and organization. My house is 9 times out of 10 a wreck, my van often looks unmentionable, and my children go to church and other places often without socks, in completely mismatched clothes, and sometimes with bedhead.
